The 25th anniversary Sofia International Film Festival presented in the spring of 2021 a total of 134 films from 53 countries. There are 129 films planned with screenings at the cinemas in Sofia and in other cities, 73 films can be seen ONLINE from everywhere in Bulgaria till April 11th at online.siff.bg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SOFIA CITY OF FILM GRAND PRIX AWARD<\/strong> for best film in the International Competition for first and second films, amounted to 7 000 Euro provided by the Sofia Municipality, went to \u2018THE PINK CLOUD\u2019 <\/strong>(Brazil) by director Iuli Gerbase<\/strong> and producer Patricia Barbieri. SPECIAL JURY AWARD<\/strong> went to \u2018GERMAN LESSONS\u2019<\/strong> (Bulgaria-Germany) by director Pavel G. Vesnakov<\/strong>. AWARD FOR BEST DIRECTOR<\/strong> went to Zhou Ziyang<\/strong> for his film \u2018WUHAI\u2019<\/strong> (China). SPECIAL MENTION <\/strong>was awarded to the film \u2018SPAGAT\u2019<\/strong> (Switzerland) by director Christian Johannes Koch<\/strong>. The BEST BULGARIAN SHORT FILM AWARD<\/strong>, amounted of 9 500 Euro (1 500 euro cash prize and 8 000 euro in postproduction services), provided by Doli Media Studio went to \u2018SANTIAGO\u2019<\/strong> (Bulgaria) by director Andrey Koulev<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n SPECIAL MENTION<\/strong> was awarded to the film \u2018TANDA\u2019 <\/strong>(Bulgaria) by director Teodora-Kosara Popova<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n BEST BALKAN FILM AWARD<\/strong>, provided by Domaine Boyar<\/strong>, handed by Balkan jury president Doron Eran (producer and director, Israel) and members Lili Horvath (director, Hungary) and John-Paul Davidson (director, United Kingdom), went to \u2018QUO VADIS, AIDA?\u2019<\/strong> (Bosnia and Herzegovina-Austria-Romania-Netherlands-Germany-Poland-France-Norway-Turkey) by director Jasmila Zbanic<\/strong>. The Balkan Jury handed also SPECIAL MENTION<\/strong> to the film \u2018OASIS\u2019<\/strong> (Serbia-Slovenia-Netherlands-France-Bosnia and Herzegovina) by Ivan Ikic<\/strong>. BEST DOCUMENTARY AWARD<\/strong> handed by the international jury with president Lech Kowalski (director, USA) and members Tue Steen M\u00fcller (director and consultant, Denmark) and Natasha Dack Ojumu (producer, United Kingdom), went to the film \u2018AKASA, MY HOME\u2019<\/strong> (Romania-Germany) by Radu Ciorniciuc<\/strong>. The Documentary Jury handed also SPECIAL MENTION<\/strong> to the film \u2018ANNY\u2019<\/strong> (Czech Republic) by Helena Trestikova<\/strong>. The Documentary Jury handed second SPECIAL MENTION<\/strong> to the film \u2018GUNDA\u2019<\/strong> (Norway-USA) by Viktor Kossakovsky. THE AWARD FOR BEST BULGARIAN FEATURE FIL<\/strong>M handed by jury of festival programmers Christine Dollhofer (director, Crossing Europe Film Festival, Linz), Stefan Laudyn (director, Warsaw IFF) and Lenka Tyrp\u00e1kov\u00e1 (programmer, Karlovy Vary IFF), went to \u2018FEBRUARY\u2019<\/strong> (Bulgaria-France) by director Kamen Kalev<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201eThis is singular poetic and mysterious piece of work that in a masterly way creates an experience of acceleration and deceleration of the flow of time while exploring life and its biographical fractures. It is an immersive portrait of a man in the XX century which opens up spaces for contemplation through an outstanding cinematic approach. \u201eViktor Kossakovsky again is surprising his audience by making a film, which is beautiful to watch – black & white, and has quite interesting protagonist. A very dramatic and emotional story about what it means to be a mother\u2026 It\u2019s about our environment, it\u2019s about our attitude, our connection to nature and animals. Kossakovsky is a master in cinematography and has again done something, which is extraordinary.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201eFor the social sharpness, showing the weakness and contradictions in one strong male character, overcoming the problems of his past and present in an intense psychological journey before heading to a new world of his dreams\u201c.
THE AWARD OF THE BULGARIAN GUILD OF FILM CRITICS<\/strong> for a film from the Balkan Competition went to \u2018UPPERCASE PRINT\u2019 <\/strong>(Romania) by Radu Jude<\/strong>.
\u201eThere was a strong selection in Balkan competition and it was difficult for the jury to choose only one film – the movies were different, with important themes and individual style. But the award is given to Radu Jude’s \u201eUppercase Print\u201c for its experimental and unconventional approach to Romanian recent history and Securitate.\u201c<\/em>
THE YOUNG JURY AWARD<\/strong> of the festival for a film in the International Competition went to \u2018LUZZU\u2019<\/strong> (Malta) by director Alex Camilleri<\/strong>.
\u201eIt responsibly affects current and multifaceted issues, which will only become even more sensitive in the world in which we live. It touches and influences with its sincere and intimate approach to the story.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
