In 1987, he founded the production company <em>Casa de Cinema in Porto Alegr<\/em>e, and was his associate until 2011. In October 2011 created <strong>Prana Filmes<\/strong>, of which he\u2019s a partner-director with Luciana Tomasi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gerbase graduated in Journalism from <em>Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul<\/em> (1980), has a doctorate in Social Communication also by <em>PUCRS<\/em> (2003) and Post-Doctorate in Cinema by <em>Sorbonne-Nouvelle University \u2013 Paris V<\/em> (2010). Currently, he\u2019s teaching Audiovisual Production on <em>PUCRS<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He began his cinematographic career in the late 1970s, with the feature film&nbsp;<strong>\u201cInverno\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;(<em>Winter<\/em>, 1983), shot in Super-8, which won the Gramado Festival in its category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also directed several works in 35 mm, such as feature film&nbsp;<strong>\u201cVerdes Anos\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;(<em>Greens Years<\/em>, 1984) and the short film&nbsp;<strong>\u201cDeus Ex-Machina\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;(1996), winner of 11 prizes in Gramado and an honorable mention at the Clermont-Ferrand Festival, in France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More recently, he wrote and directed the feature films\u00a0<strong>\u201cToler\u00e2ncia\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0(<em>Tolerance<\/em>, 2000),\u00a0<strong>\u201cSal de Prata\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0(<em>Silver Salt<\/em>, 2005),<strong>\u00a0\u201c3 Efes\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0(<em>3 F\u2019s<\/em>, 2007),\u00a0<strong>\u201cMenos que Nada\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0(<em>Less Than Nothing<\/em>, 2012) and\u00a0<strong>\u201cBio\u201d<\/strong>, besides the documentary \u201c<strong>1983 \u2013 O Ano Azul<\/strong>\u201d (<em>1983 \u2013 The Blue Year<\/em>, 2009).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In television, he wrote several scripts for <em>Rede Globo<\/em>, like miniseries \u201c<strong>Memorial de Maria Moura<\/strong>\u201d, \u201c<strong>Engra\u00e7adinha<\/strong>\u201d and \u201c<strong>Luna Caliente<\/strong>\u201d. He wrote and directed material for <em>TV Globo<\/em> (such as the short film\u00a0<strong>\u201cO Comprador de Fazendas<\/strong>\u00a0\/<em>\u00a0The Buyer of Farms<\/em><strong>\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0for the series \u201cBrava Gente\u201d) and for <em>RBS-TV<\/em> (<strong>\u201cO Amante Amador<\/strong>\u00a0\/<em>\u00a0The Loving Lover<\/em><strong>\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>\u201cFaustina\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0for the series\u00a0<strong>\u201cContos de Inverno<\/strong>\u00a0\/\u00a0<em>Winter Stories<\/em><strong>\u201d<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a writer, he has five works of fiction (two volumes of short stories, two novels and aanthology of chronicles) and three essays in the field of cinema.<br><br>From 2013, he participated actively in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pranafilmes.com.br\/en\/achievements\/first-film-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">First Film Project<\/a><\/strong>, providing training workshops for elementary and middle school teachers, based on his textbook \u201c<strong>First Film: Discovering, Doing, Thinking<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the second half of 2014, he was curator of the exhibition \u201c<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pranafilmes.com.br\/en\/achievements\/moacyr-scliar-exhibition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Moacyr Scliar, O Centauro do Bom Fim<\/a><\/strong>\u201d, which took more than 100 thousand visitors to <em>Santander Cultural<\/em>, in Porto Alegre, and was highlighted by the press as one of the main cultural events of that year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between 1983 and 2002, he was also a member \u2013 as a drummer and later vocalist \u2013 of the iconic rock band from Rio Grande do Sul, <strong>Os Replicantes<\/strong>, with which he released six albums in the period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Photo by: Davi Campana<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Born in Porto Alegre, where he has always lived, is a writer, screenwriter, film director and teacher.
